Information: John D. Huffman, 26, of Walton was pronounced dead on the scene following a Saturday morning accident on U.S. 119 north, about four miles south of Walton in Roane County. He was the brother of Reva Taylor of Ripley. The driver of the car, Kenneth Wayne Taylor, 26, of Walton was treated at Roane General Hospital and released. Taylor, charged with driving under the influence resulting in a death by reckless disregard, was released on $2,500 bond. Taylor apparently lost control of the car and ran off the road, where he struck a utility pole, Trooper D.W. Skeen, with the Spencer detachment of the state police said. Huffman was a Protestant and a laborer. Also surviving: wife, Kathy Rucker Huffman; son, Johnny of Walton; daughter, Lisa of Walton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hollie Huffman of Walton; brothers, Roger and Allen, both of Walton, Edward of Ovapa, Leroy of Richmond, Va; sisters, Kay Epling of Reidsville, Ohio, Diane Hinkle of Kingsport, Tenn., Freda Jones of Elkview, Audry Weese of Charleston, Sandy Gandee, Mae Cummings and Alma Wazelle, all of Walton. Burial was in Billy Hunt Cemetery, Walton.
