Information: Mrs. R. M. Hovery, 65 years old, of Liverpool, died suddenly at her home Monday evening following a stroke. Mrs. Hovey appeared as well as usual Monday morning but as she was coming from milking, the stroke occurred. Found lying unconscious by her husband, she was carried into the house and a physician summoned, but remained unconscious until death occurred that evening. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hovey is survived by three daughters, Mrs. (Helen) Dwight Staats, of Ripley, Mrs. Howard Haynes of Williamstown, and Mrs. Harry Benedict of Ravenswood. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday from the home and interment was made in the Liverpool cemetery. Susie Lavena Hovey, born March 28, 1875, died June 10, 1940, at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 13 days, after a few hours illness of apoplexy. She was one of a family of thirteen children, the daughter of Matthew and Evaline Whittington and was born near Pt. Pleasant, Mason county, where she spent most of her life until her marriage June 6, 1899 to Rush M. Hovey at Spencer, W. Va. To this union were born three daughters and one son, all living except the son who preceded her in death eight years ago. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, one who always placed the welfare and happiness of others before her own, always ready to help neighbor and stranger alike. When a young girl she became a member of the United Brethren church. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Corda Haynes, of Williamstown, W. Va., Mrs. Kathleen Benedict, of Ravenswood, and Mrs. Helen Staats of Ripley; four grandchildren, Mildred Haynes, Howard Ray Haynes, Fred Benedict, and Betty Benedict; seven sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Frannie Mitchell, of North Charleston, South Carolina; Mrs. Kate Flinn, Mrs. Mary Swisher and Mrs. Daisy Marsh, all of Pt. Pleasant; Mrs. Carrie Greenlee, of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Lelia Russell Livingston, of Montana; Mrs. Flora Wood, of Mellin, WV; Bob Whittington, of Pt. Pleasant and Lawrence Whittington of Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. Spencer of Reedy and burial was in the Liverpool cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. Dwight Staats, Harry Benedict, Howard Haynes, Virgil Plants, Emory Duff and Gilbert Plants.
