Information: Death suddenly claimed Edward Butcher Hopkins, a native of Evans, at his Dallas, Texas home Friday, according to messages received by relatives here. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. The prominent geologist was 58 years of age and born in Evans, Jackson county, the son of Andrew and Delia Butcher Hopkins. He graduated at West Virginia University in 1901 and at George Washington University in 1904. The deceased married Amy Longcope of Houston, Texas in 1913. To this union five children were born, all of whom survive. The children include four daughters, Amy I., Jane L., Louise and Madeline, and one son, Edward Jr.; also his father, Doctor Andrew Hopkins, Parkersburg, and two brothers, Roy.S. of Rochester, New York, and Herbert, of Pennsboro, WV. Mr. Hopkins was associate with the U.S. Geological Survey and Mexican Eagle Petroleum company from 1909 to 1913 and managed the Cuban Oil Company from 1913 to 1913 and was later an executive of the International Petroleum Company. At the time of his death he was serving as consulting engineer and petroleum geologist.
