Information: TAPS SOUND FOR LAST VET - Funeral services were held Monday, March 20, at Alliance, Ohio, for Ravenswood native Charles W. Alexander of Alliance.  Mr. Alexander died at the Crile Veterans Hospital in Cleveland, March 16, following a three-months' illness.  Born in Ravenswood February 21, 1878, he had lived in Alliance since 1913.  He was the last surviving Spanish American War Veteran in the Alliance area.  During the war he served in the Phillippine Islands and was a chief scout for General Funston.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First United Presbyterian Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, in 1962.  For many years, he was superintendent of steel construction for the H. K. Fergason Co., Cleveland, before his retirement.  Survivors include a son, Clyde B. of Alliance; two brothers, Patrick of DeLand, Fla., and Ray of Ravenswood; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Custar, of Marietta; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.  Rev. Eugene Ebert officiated at the services.  Burial was in Fairmount Memorial Park.
