Information: EVANS - Hazel Erma (Sayre) Herdman, 94, of Evans, Mason County, departed this life, October 22, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.  She was born April 8, 1908, in Evans, a daughter of the late Harl and Theodosia (Slaughter) Sayre.  She was a lifelong resident of Mason County and the Creston community.  She spent her life caring for others.  Her legacy: to live by the golden rule and the ten commandments, make your own joy, meet adversity head-on, accept responsibility, work hard and don't lose faith was imparted to all who knew her.  Surviving are sons, Gay (Imogene) Herdman of Leon, Dwight (Susie) Herdman of Melbourne, FL, Keith (Goldie) Herdman of Mount Alto, Garnet (Bonnie) Herdman of Richmond, Va., Eddy(Vicki) Herdman of Ravenswood; daughters, Bernice Harden of Ravenswood, Janette Sheets of Columbus, OH, Sally Cole of Parkersburg, Beverly (Dallas) Durst of Leon; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and very special friends.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, W. Hubert (Bill) Herdman in 1946; brothers, Valloe Sayre, Riley Sayre, Earl Sayre and Beauford Sayre; sisters, Flossie Sayre, Zona Donohew, Emily Yeager, and Ethel Moore.  Services were held at 11a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2002,at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV with Rev. Gerald Sayre officiating.  Burial followed in the Creston Cemetery, Evans.
