Information: Hemsworth, Martha G. Mahan-Ferguson Mrs. Martha Hemsworth, 84, the mother of the late Richard Francis Ferguson of Ripley, died at her home in Parkersburg early Tuesday morning. The body is at the Vail Funeral Home in Ripley but arrangements for the funeral are not completed. The burial will be at the Martin Chapel cemetery. She had been critically ill for several weeks and Mrs. R. F. Ferguson of Ripley and Wade Ferguson of Chester were at the home when she died. Mrs. Hemsworth was the daughter of Richard G. and Lucinda Wise Mahan. Among the survivors are nine grandchildren and numerous other relatives. She married Alexander Vauden Ferguson on 29 Oct 1882 and he preceded herein death on 24 Jan 1906. Mr. Ferguson was the son of Joseph and (his third wife) Grace Vauden Ferguson. After Mr. Ferguson died, Martha married in 1909 Lewis E. Phelps and resided in Meigs County, Ohio. She later married a Mr. Hemsworth. (Friday, 30 Sept 1949) Hemsworth, Martha Elizabeth Mahan-Ferguson-Phelps Martha Elizabeth Hemsworth died at her home at 1502 20th Street in Parkersburg on September 7 at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 4 days. She was born in Jackson County May 23, 1866, the daughter of Richard G. and Lucinda (Wise) Mahan. She united in marriage to Alexander Ferguson October 29, 1882 and to this union was born one son, Richard T. Ferguson, who preceded her in death about a year ago. Mr. Ferguson passed away in 1906 and she later married Louis Phelps, who also preceded her in death, passing away in 1920. In 1927 she married A. C. Hemsworth, who passed away in April 1948. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vena Ferguson of Ripley, five grandsons and four granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grand-children, and several step children. She had resided in Parkersburg for about the last 30 years. The funeral service was held at the Vail Funeral Chapel here Thursday afternoon with Rev. George E. Thomas officiating and burial was in the Martin Chapel Cemetery on Mud Run near Ripley. (Friday, 7 Oct 1949) (Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection)
