Information: Sgt. Roy Lee Barnett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen A. Barnett, was born at Rockcastle Feb. 28, 1916, killed near Le Saliare, France, on July 27, 1944, aged 28 years, 4 months and 27 days. Roy entered the US Army on January 14, 1942 and received training at Fort Worth, Texas and Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, and was sent overseas Sept. 9, 1943. He took part in the invasion of France and was on the front line for 50 days. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Gallantry in Action the first part of July. He leaves to mourn their loss his father, one brother and three sisters, Raymond Barnette of Liberty, Mrs. Laura Aubertine of Tyler Mountain, Mrs. Grace King of Mason City, and Mrs. Norene Kersey of Charleston. His mother preceded him in death July 24, 1943, and his brother, Rondus, on Jan. 23, 1941.
