Information: Wayne E. Hatcher, 88, of the Tug Fork community, Ripley WV, passed away February 4, 2012 in Eldercare of Ripley following a brief illness. He was born June 25, 1923 in Kentuck WV, a son of the late Rosco N. and Icie Belle (Williams) Hatcher. Four brothers, including a twin brother, and six sisters also preceded him in death. He was a retired farmer and retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, Ravenswood, and was a member of United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668. Prior to Kaiser, he worked at Goodyear Rubber in Akron OH and for DuPont at the Belle WV plant. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse, Forrest Home, and was a graduate of Ripley High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mabel Maxine (Jones) Hatcher; son and his wife, Steve and Melissa Hatcher of Ripley; daughters and sons-in-law, Vera M. and Thornton Smith of Parkersburg, and Velma ""Mackie"" and Tom Goodson of Ripley; grandchildren, Lisa and (Kelly) Snyder of Belmont, Lori and (Jeff) Renner of Arvilla, Lynn and (Dave) Allen of Bear DE, Tommy and (Bri) Goodson of Ravenswood, Whitney and (Marc) Scholl of Ripley, Kendra and (Brandon) Hersman of Evans, Chris and (Caroline) Smith of Conover NC, Dave and (Jodi) Smith of Rockport, and Phil Smith of Vienna; and 15 great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 am Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans WV, with the Rev. Kelly Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Fairplain Cemetery, Ripley. Visitation was from 6 until 8 pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Salt Hill Community Church, c/o Patty Hall, 66 Juniper Grove Drive, Cottageville WV.
