Information: Virginia J. Hartley, 83, of Reedy died last Tuesday in Roane General Hospital, Spencer, following a long illness. She was born in Gay, a daughter of the late Jerome and Louie Baker Whited. She was a homemaker and a member of the Napier Church of Gay. She is survived by her husband, Oscar Hartley; one son, Gilbert Hartley of Sandyville; three daughters, Helen Wheeler and Madeline Young, both of Reedy, and Maxine Nichols of Spencer; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ray Hartley. Service was Friday at the Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. H.G. Wayne officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery, Roane County.
