Information: Nellie Koontz Barnett, 80, of Sandyville died Thursday, July 16, 1987 at the Jackson General Hospital following a long illness.  She was born at Rockcastle, a daughter of the late Henry and Lona Smith Koontz.  She was a housewife, a member of the Mount Zion Community Church and a charter member of the Mount Zion Community Church and a charter member of the West Virginia Poetry Society.  She was a columnist for the Ripley Mountaineer for 15 years as well as a part-time feature writer for several state and local newspapers, including The Jackson Herald.  She is survived by three daughters, Hope Tomlin of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gloria Harris of Charleston, Becky Jo Roush of St. Albans; one sister, Mae Snodgrass of Racine; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Barnett and one son, T. K. Barnett.  Services were Saturday at the Parsons Funeral Home Chapel, Ripley with the Rev. Paul Parsons officiating.  Burial was in Barnett Cemetery, Rockcastle.
