Information: Asa Alie Harpold, 77, of Gay, died July 16, 1996 at Jackson General Hospital from a lung disease.  He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and a World War II veteran.  He was a former school bus driver, Deputy Sheriff and Sheriff of Jackson County.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dottie Lou.  Surviving are:  his wife, Dorothy McClain Harpold; sons, Larry of Gandeeville, Philip and Timothy, both of Ripley; daughters, Janice Crawford and Vicki Shafer, both of Ripley, Beverly Crook of Staats Mill and Teresa Burchett of Columbia, South Carolina; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Krimmell officiating. Interment Harpold Cemetery, Gay.  Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Epworth United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donation be sent to American Lung Association.  Arrangements made by Waybright/Parsons Funeral Home.  NOTE:  He was born July 29, 1918, a son of the late Aley and Bessie Cox Harpold.
