Obituary Date: 2011-08-18

Information: RAVENSWOOD - Junie Ernestine Sutphin Harless, 76, of Ravenswood, life long advocate for the elderly, departed this life on August 16, 2011, with her daughter and son at her side.  She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma, and businesswoman.  She was born on March 21, 1935 in Clothier, West Virginia, the only daughter of five children, to the late Marion Gertrude McCormick and Jesse Raymond Sutphin.  Also preceding her in death were her beloved brothers, Archibald ""Archie"" Sutphin, Darius Sutphin, Dwayne Sutphin and Robert ""Bobby"" Sutphin. and her beloved grandson, Christopher Shayne Myers.  For nearly fifty years, June served the elderly in the community by caring for them and loving them like her own family.  In the early 60's she started caring for a few elderly people in a home which later grew into what is now the Ravenswood Care Center, which has been home to thousands of residents.      June was a long time member of the Ripley Church of Christ on Jackson Avenue in Ripley WV.  She looked forward to attending services and loved providing food for all the church fellowships.  June's favorite color was lavender, and she loved roses and spring time.  She loved traveling to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, reading books and cooking.  No one could leave her house without eating something delicious--biscuits and gravy, chocolate cherry cake, or hot rolls that would melt in your mouth.  When she wasn't cooking, she was sewing.  She made many beautiful quilts for her family and friends.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.      She is survived by her former husband, Harold Harry Harless; her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and John Myers; and her son ""Sandy"" Harless.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Todd Myers, Jamie Myers McCombs, Nathan Harless, and Ashley Harless, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Maddie, Anna-Claire & Isabelle Myers, Asia Harless, and Henry, Maevry and Adele McCombs. A service is 12 p.m. Thursday, August 18, at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood WV, with Pastor Brent DeWees officiating.  Burial will follow at the Ravenswood Cemetery.  Friends visited the family at Roush Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at roush94@yahoo.com or on our website at www.joeroushfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, June would have loved for donations to be made to the Ravenswood Care Center Resident Activity Fund at 1113 Washington Street, Ravenswood WV 26164.
