Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1941-02-14

Information: Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Harkins, 34 years old, were held at the Fairplain church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was in the Shinn cemetery in the Skidmore family plot.  Mrs. Harkins died unexpectedly at her home in Charleston Monday afternoon, relatives said, and her death was a shock to members of her family and friends. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Skidmore and had lived in Charleston since her marriage.  She is survived by her husband, William Harkins; one son, Winifred Bibbee, by a former marriage; four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Ballard of Charleston, Mrs. Hazel Pullen of Diamond, Mrs. Juanita Rhodes of Fairplain, and Elaine Buckalew of Dunbar; and three brothers, Ray Skidmore and Dwight Skidmore, of Charleston, and Rolla Skidmore of Ripley.  Death has struck swiftly at this family during the past two years.  First the mother was taken suddenly.  Then a son was accidently killed at the farm a little more than a year ago and the father, C. L. Skidmore, one of the county's well known citizens, was the next to be called.  Kanawha county coroner, Dr. C. F. Sayre, after making an investigation into the sudden death of Mrs. Harkins, reported Tuesday afternoon that death had resulted from taking poison.  [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
