Information: RIPLEY - Walter E. Hanning, 94, of Ripley, died Thursday, March 2, 2006.  He was the son of the late Walter S. and Martha Webster Hanning.  He was born June 4, 1911, in Ripley.  He was a veteran of WWII.  He was a construction worker in Jackson County and also worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp in California along with construction on the WV and Pennsylvania Turnpikes.  He owned and operated general stores in Fairplain and Silverton.  He later moved to Portage County, OH where he had a cattle and dairy farm and was a member of the Palmyra Methodist Church.  He retired from North American Rockwell, Newton Falls OH.  He was a member of Ripley Lodge #30 and attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley.  Survivors include his wife, Hazel Hanning; son, Okey Brice Hanning; sister, Frances Casto of Ripley; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three infant sisters; brother Brice Hanning; sister, Opal Taylor and son Harold Keith Hanning.  Funeral services were Sunday, March 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Vail Funeral Home in Ripley with the Rev. Charles Hicks officiating.  Burial followed in the Fairplain Cemetery.  Military rites were provided by Jackson County veterans.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.  Condolences may be sent to www.vailfh.com.
