Information: A former Jackson countian, a 27 year veteran of military forces, was one of the 47 servicemen killed in the crash of a Vietnam-bound military flight at Anchorage, Alaska Friday night. There were 230 passengers and crew aboard the DC-8 when it crashed. Tech. Sgt. Earl ""Pinkie"" Halley, 43, formerly of Ravenswood, having volunteered for a third tour of duty in Vietnam, died on injuries received in the crash, according to a military message received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Halley, Vienna. Sgt. Halley's father formerly worked on the locks and Dam 22 near Ravenswood. His mother was the former Corrine Deaton of Ravenswood. The Halleys lived at Ravenswood when their son was born. Tech. Sgt. Halley would have been eligible for 30-year retirement in three years, a spokesman for the family said. He was born June 16, 1927 in Ravenswood, and had served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the St. John's EUB Church in Vienna. Survivors include his parents; one son, Irving Halley of New Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Henry of Parkersburg and Mrs. Leonard (Grace) Dotson of Vienna; two brothers, Frank C. Halley of Vienna and James Edward Halley of Hollywood, Fla. A military funeral will be conducted by an Air Force detachment from Columbus, it was reported. Burial will be in the Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood.
