Information: William French Groves, 75, of Ripley, died Thursday, Aug 31, 1989, at Jackson General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late John Issac Groves and Minnie Godbey Groves. He was retired from Columbia Gas and was a member of the Memorial Goodwill Church, Kenna. He is survived by his wife, Opal Gay Groves; five sons, Larry and Eugene Groves, both of Ripley, John Groves of Denver, Colo., William Groves of Marietta and Robert Groves of Sandyville; three daughters, Mary Hoselton and Brenda Sheets, both of Ravenswood, and Zella Fisher of Ripley; one brother, Vernon Groves of Procious, Clay County, W. Va.; two sisters, Electa Henstey of Quick, Kanawha County, W.Va. and Sophia Justice of Clendenin, Kanawha County, W. Va.; 17 grandchildren. Services were Saturday at Parsons Funeral Home Chapel, Ripley with the Rev. Clyde Syner and the Rev. S. R. Parsons, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Jackson Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Cottageville.
