Information: Mrs. Mary Frances Ayres, the companion of Samuel Greer, was born in Bath County, Virginia, February 8, 1835.  Came to Ripley, Jackson County, in 1843; was united in marriage with Samuel B. Greer, June 3, 1853, and died at her home in Sandyville, January 10, 1882.  Aged 46 ears 11 months and 22 days. Mrs. Greer joined the M. E. Church South, in 1867.  She was a kind and affectionate companion.  A loving and indulgent mother,and was always ready and willing to assist the poor and needy, and those in distress.  Her many acts of charity will long be remembered.  She was severely afflicted for many years, but bore all her sickness and afflictions patiently, and before she died, expressed herself as being ready and willing to die, and requested her husband and children to so live, that they might all meet her in Heaven. She was taken to the cemetery at Ripley when she was laid to rest amidst broken hearted and bereaved friends.  Her funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in Ripley by the writer, where many were seen to weep when the last look of ""Aunt Frances"" was taken, and she was borne silently away to enter those earthly courts no more.
