Information: James A. Greer passed away at Hotel Counts, Friday night, October 27, aged nearly 79, after an indefinable illness of some weeks. He had become bloated and three weeks before his death was tapped but the dropsical water never returned, thus indicating that dropsy was not his ailment. His family had preceded him in death, first a grown son, Charles, years after his wife and later his only daughter, Mrs. Maggie Botkins. He was the third of four brothers, three of whom have passed from the scene of action in the order of their advent. First John M., the oldest, who had served several terms as sheriff, next on October 27, 1906, Samuel B., who had succeeded his brother in the sheriffalty; exactly five years later, James A., who had been a deputy sheriff under the two brothers previously deceased and also his brother, W. T., answered the final summons. The youngest brother, William T. Greer, Esq., and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Lewis of near Ripley, and Mrs. Mattie Gibbs of Reedy, survive. Interment was made in the old cemetery after services held at the residence of W. T. Greer by Revs. Martin and Rymer. Deceased's property, consisting of a farm on Sycamore and personalty goes, it is said, to his grand-children, Mayme Lantz, Edith, Roscoe and Bernard Botkin.
