Information: A cerebral hemorrhage resulted in the death of John Green 70 year old prominent attorney and state senator, at a hospital in Williamson. He was stricken as he and Mrs. Green were making final plans to leave for Florida that night in the hope that the several weeks to be spent there on the advice of a physician might be beneficial to his health. He had been in poor health for the past two years, relatives in Ripley said. Senator Greene was born in Fairplain where he grew to manhood and like many of the young men of his day he became a public school teacher and in 1901 went to Williamson to teach and spent the remainder of his life in that city. Three years later he was admitted to membership in the Mingo County bar and at the time of his death was one of its widely known members. He was elected to the State Senate from that district in 1934 and was again re-elected in 1938, and in the session of 1941 was the president pro tempore of the State Senate where colleagues said that he presided with dignity and fairness at all times. He is survived by his widow, the former Belle Pfost, who is also a native of Fairplain. Other close relatives include: F.P.M. Pfost, of Ripley, a brother-in-law, and Mrs. Cloah Shamblen, also of Ripley, and a sister-in-law.
