Information: COTTAGEVILLE - Dorn E. Grady, 83, of Cottageville, Jackson County, departed this life Aug. 28, 2003, at Eldercare of West Virginia, Ripley, following an extended illness. He was born April 4, 1920, in Leon, Mason County, W. Va., a son of the late George and Mary Eskew Grady. He was a World War II veteran, having served with an Army aircraft unit in the South Pacific. He was retired from Kaiser Aluminum with 22 years of service. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America, Local No. 5668. Formerly, he worked at the Vanadium plant and as a local construction employer. He was a farmer and an avid hunter. He was a notorious groundhog hunter, keeping a list of over 1,500 groundhogs killed, mostly in Jackson and Greenbrier counties. He enjoyed many hunts in Canada, Wyoming and all over West Virginia. In recent years, he plowed gardens and cleared snow for neighbors. Dorn was a member of Cottageville United Methodist Church since 1946. He was a member of Senior Citizens, the Old-Timers Club, National Rifle Association and served as a trustee for Foster Chapel Cemetery. He enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, as well as Tahiti, Israel, Egypt, Ireland and Italy. Mostly, however, he enjoyed his family, his farm, his church and hunting. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Georgia Stewart Grady; sons, Gary Grady and his wife, Christine, of Charleston, and Jerry Grady of Cottageville; brother, Raymon Grady of Buzzard, W. Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mable Tucker, May Harmon, Bertha Fleak and Alma Marker; and by a brother, Londis Grady. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with the Rev. Phillip Scarberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottageville United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be form 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
