Information:     Former Ripley councilman Carl Louis Akens, 56, 117 Hall St., Ripley, was dead on arrival at Jackson General Hospital Friday after an apparent heart attack.  He was born in Big Stone Gap, VA., a son of the late William “Bud” and Stella Lambert Akens.  He was a Korean Air Force veteran, member of the Ripley Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion and was retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. with 32 years service.  He is survived by his wife, Beulah Hamon Akens; one son, Bud Akens of Ripley; one daughter, Beverly Allgire of Leroy; two brothers, the Rev. Hershal David Akens of Ewing, Va.; and Harry Akens of Niceville, Fla.; four sisters, Reka Ely of Charlotte, N.C., Mary  Rutherford of Abingdon, Va., Churchill Steel of Fresno, Calif., and Peg Childaux of Morro Bay, Calif.; stepbrother, Bruce Scalf of Sterling, KY.; two grandsons, Seth Casto and Zachry Akens.  Memorial services were Sunday at the Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with the Rev. Hubert Groves officiating.  Donations may be made to the American Lupus Foundation.
