Information: Mrs. Clarence Garnes, formerly of Given, and who has numerous relatives in this county, including Mrs. J. B. Shinn of Fairplain, died at her home at Chillicothe, Ohio last week and a newspaper in that city carried the following story of her death: Mrs. Arta Bell Garnes, 55, of Rt. 6, died Sunday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lelia Ickes, 917 Jefferson Avenue. Death terminated an illness of three years. Mrs. Garnes was born at Given, WV on Feb. 28, 1893, the daughter of William and Almeda Nichols Bolles (Bowles). She had resided here for 31 years. Surviving are her husband, Clarence, whom she married in 1914; two daughters, Mrs. Hershel Francis of Laurelville, Rt. 1, and Mrs. Clarence Malott of Chillicothe; a son, William Garnes of Rt. 5; her mother; two sisters, Mrs. Leslie Hines of Rt. 2 and Mrs. Eckes, and five grandchildren. Service will be held Tuesday from the Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. James Rinehart officiating and burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. (Betty Kessel McIntyre obituary collection)
