Information: EVANS - Darrell E. Balcoe, 54, of Evans, died November 3, 2005 at Charleston Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born October 5, 1951 in Welch, WV, a son of the late William ""Bill"" and Lorena Mahaffey Balcoe. He was a Baptist by faith and attended church in both Ripley and Anawalt. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion. He was a graduate of Welch High School and attended Bluefield State College and Technical School for Heating & Cooling. He was an Outreach Benefit Counselor and Lay Advocate for Black Lung at the Dug River Health Clinic in Gary, WV and served on the Council of Southern Mountains for Weatherization. He was employed by U.S. Steel #9 In Gary, WV and also owned and operated Balcoe's Tree Service and Home Improvements. Although he had many accomplishments, he was most proud of going to college at the age of 48 and maintaining status of the Deans List of Bluefield State College. Survivors include his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Mary Balcoe of Ripley; daughters, Amy Balcoe Stacy of Evans and Crystal Balcoe of Norfolk VA; sisters, Pat Marino of Ripley and Mary Ann Walker of Anawalt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Walter Dewane""Denny"" Balcoe; special nephew, Joseph Michael ""Mickey"" Marino and special cousin Linda Blackburn. Services were held Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial followed at Fairplain Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to one's charity of choice.
