  <p>Information: Roy J. Friend, 84, of Cottageville, died Monday, March 12, in the Jackson General Hospital after a short illness.  He was born August 24, 1888 at Mt. Alto, the son of Jonas Friend and Susan Turner Friend.  He was married May 31, 1917 to Bertha Pickens Friend.  He was retired from Dravo Corporation as a crane operator. Survivors:  wife, Bertha; son, Kenneth Friend of Mt. Alto; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Mae Durst and Mrs. Beryl Miller of Cottageville; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church at Mt. Alto with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.  Casto Funeral Home at Evans is in charge of arrangements.</p>
