Information: James Allen French was born December 25, 1840, in Mercer County, Virginia, now West Virginia, and died June 6, 1926; aged 85 years, 6 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage March 1, 1864, to Miss Minerva Bennett, who died September 11, 1884. To this union were born ten children: Eva, Ballard, Rhoda, John W., Perry A., Della M., Levi, Dona, Elzena, and James F., six of who have preceded him to the great beyond. March 5, 1885, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Esther J. French, who with four children--Ballard of Vinton County, Ohio, Perry A. of Given, Dona Woodall of Putnam Co. and Elzena Knapp of Mason County and two brothers, William and Andrew, still survive him. Uncle Allen, as he was called by all his friends, moved to this county in an early day, was converted and united with the Baptist Church about sixty five years ago, and lived a consistent christian life. He was a good father and a loving companion and spent his life in trying to build up the Church and neighborhood in which he lived. He was cared for in his last illness by his son Perry who with his good wife did all in their power to make his last days as peaceful as human hands could possibly do.
