Information: Anthony John ""Tony"" Frederick, 89, of Charleston, died Friday, December 28, 2001, at home after a short illness. He worked in the coal industry all his life and founded the F&F Mining Corp. and Capital Fuels, Inc. He was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and a 52-year resident of Charleston. Prior to World War II, he was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the West Virginia Surface Mining Association and General Contractors Association and a member of the Charleston Elks. He was a member of the Kanawha Country Club, and a lifetime supporter of WVU. In 1979 he was awarded Coal Man of the Year. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vi; daughter, Tonie DeFade and husband, Phil, of Charleston; son, G. B. Frederick and wife, Brenda, of Kenna; sister, Theresa Ferrett of Clarksburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Angela Frederick. Memorial Mass was held Monday at Sacred Heart C-Cathedral, with the Rev. Father Eric Hall IV officiating. Entombment will be in Tyler Mountain Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home of Charleston was in charge of arrangements.
