Information: Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Casto Funeral Home at Evans for James Russell Baker, 85, of Evans and formerly of Ripley, who died Sunday in Jackson General Hospital following a short illness. Evangelist A. M. Gillispie will officiate. Burial will be in Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville. Mr. Baker, who was the last surviving member of his immediate family, was born March 20, 1884 in Tyler County, a son of Martin Van Buren and Mary McIntyre Baker. He was a retired stockman and farmer, and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his widow, Clara; three daughters, Mrs. Avis Raines of Marysville, Ohio, Mrs. Ann Skeen of Cottageville and Mrs. Lila Casto of Evans. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a daughter, Iris Louine, who was killed by a streetcar in Columbus, Ohio, a son, Chester, who was killed in Belgium in World War II, another son, J. Hal Baker, of Dunbar, who died in 1967 and an infant son, Onley Wayne.
