Obituary Date: 1890-01-14

Information:      Jan. 14th, 1890 at her home in Ravenswood. W.Va., Sister Hannah Fleming died in the 78th year of her age, after more than one half a century of faithful christian devotation and service.  She was born in Meigs Co., Ohio, November 24th, 1812.  Was married to Bortholomen Fleming, Nov. 14th, 1833, and shortly after moved to her present home when his section was an almost unbroken wilderness, before Ravenswood existed, or perhaps was thought of.  Here she spent her life, and her life speaks for her.  More than fifty years ago she made a professian of religion and united with the M.E. church, being the first person to unite with any church in this section of the state.  For many years her house was the church, and her home the home of the ministers of the Gospel of all denominations.  At the division of Methodism in 1844 she, with all the church here except two, adhered to the M.E. Church, South, of which she continued a faithful and devoted member until her death.  Her last sickness was of the most intense suffering, such as very, very few are called to endure in this life, yet without murmur or complaint, not once did her faith in God even waver.  She had learned to trust in his sustaining grace--and it was sufficient.  She was ""faithful until death.""  She leaves seven children (all church members) and if she left no other legacy, they would be rich in the unquestioned record of her faithful life.  What a hallowed influence such a life must shed.  God grant that her children and church may ever profit by it.
