Information: Heart Attack Claims Former County Delegate John Edward Fitzgerald, 65, Flatwoods Road, died Thursday en route to a Parkersburg hospital following an apparent heart attack. The former Ripley businessman had served three terms as a member of the House of Delegates from the 10th District. At the time of his death, he was county chairman of the Democrat party. Mr. Fitzgerald was former owner of Fitzgerald Greenhouses in Ripley and was owner and operator of Fitzgerald Floral Products on Flatwoods Road. He was chairman of the Jackson County Board of Health and served on the board of the W. Va. Health Systems Agence Inc. He was a Mason, a member of the Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar, Nemesis Temple of the Shrine, the Eastern Star and was a Kentucky colonel. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past presdient and member of the Ripley Rotary Club, the American Legion and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a Marine veteran of World War II. He was born in Urbana, Ohio, a son of the late Edward and Myrtle Roberts Fitzgerald. Surviving are his wife, Edna Thomas Fitzgerald; son, John Edward Fitzgerald Jr. of St. Marys; daughter Mrs. Mary Katherine Reed of New Haven; brother Harry Mark Fitzgerald of Franklin, Ohio; five grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday in the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley with the Rev. William Eaton officiating. Burial was Monday in Franklin, Ohio. Casto Funeral Home, Evans was in charge of arrangements.
