Information: Ellison, Georgia Shinn Death came suddenly to Mrs. Georgia Ellison, 60, at her Ripley home last Thursday evening. She had been in failing health for some time but death had not been expected. Mrs. Ellison was a former clerk of the Circuit Court of Jackson County and held the distinction of being the only woman who ever served in one of the major political offices of the county. When her husband, the late Okey Ellison, was elected clerk of the court in 1938 and died soon after he took office, Judge Lewis H. Miller named his widow to the position in which she served until the election of 1940. The funeral was held from her home on Main Street Monday afternoon with Rev. L. R. Mahoney of Mannington and Rev. Roy W. Fisher in charge and the burial was in the Fairplain Cemetery. She was a daughter of the late J. A. and Dora Shinn, and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Rhodes of Parkersburg; two brothers, Allen Shinn who at the present time is in Florida and Dr. John Shinn of Pt. Pleasant; a sister, Mrs. J. Howard Smith of Ripley, and a granddaughter. (Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection)
