Information: MILL CREEK FARMER DIES - A long illness proved fatal to Joseph H. Easter at his home near Salt Hill last Friday. For more than a year he had been in very ill health and for the past several weeks his condition had been considered as serious. Mr. Easter was 76 years, 10 months and 28 days of age at the time of his death. He was a native of Boone county and, when a young man, married Miss M. F. Hill in 1881. They had sixteen children, ten of whom are living at the present time. The wife died several years ago. Other survivors include 72 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The family came to Jackson county many years ago and Mr. Easter purchased a farm on Mill Creek near Salt Hill where he engaged in the business of farming and livestock raising and was widely known as one of the county's leading agriculturists. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Improved Order of Red Men and the Baptist church. The funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon with Rev. C. Robinson in charge and he was assisted by Rev. Fred Slaughter. The burial was in the cemetery at Salt Hill. NOTE: Joseph Henry Easter was born July 25, 1859 and died May 23, 1936. Mrs. Easter was the former Margaretta Frances Hill Easter. She was born April 7, 1867 and died September 7, 1927. 231 acres of the original Easter farm was purchased by the State of West Virginina In 1949 for the development of a camp and conference center for the State FFA and FHA. Today it is known as the Cedar Lakes Conference Center.
