Information: Dayton Eugene Durst, 61, of Mount Alto went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2004 in the St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He was born August 12, 1942 in Mount Alto, a son of Ethel Mae (Friend) Durst of Cottageville and the late Dale D. ""Jack"" Durst. He was a furnace operator for Pechiney Rolled Product with 37 years of service. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #5668, a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local #132. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the American Legion, a member of the Senior League at the Riverside Golf Course and a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle Church. In addition to his mother, other survivors include his wife of 39 years, Lois June Durst; son and daughter-in-law, Dale Wayne and Kristine Durst of Simpsonville, SC; daughter, Deborah Durst of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Barbara Jean Winter of Millwood, Wanda Mae Shinn of Mount Alto and Diana Lynn McDowell of Evans; grand-children, Lauren Taylor Durst and Tyler Dale Durst; beloved mother-in-law, Daisy Durst; other special in-laws, Roger and Lydia, Jim and Sue, Ronald Sr., Dorothy and Junior. Services were held Sunday, March 28, at Casto Funeral HOme, Evans with the Reverend Mark Price and the Reverend Herman Jordan officiating. Burial followed in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville with military honors by the Jackson County veteran's groups. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Cottageville Volunteer Fire Department.
