Information: THE LATE GEORGE DEWEES - George H. DeWees was born November 6, 1892, died July 17, 1916, aged 23 years, 8 months, and 11 days. He was the eldest son of David J. and Dora DeWees. He was also the eldest grand-son of George W. and Jane Parsons, both of whom have preceded to that land beyond. He is survived by his aged grandparents, Wm. J. and Ruth DeWees, of which he was also the eldest of their grand-sons. He is mourned by his father, mother, three brothers and three sisters, one brother and one sister having passed on before him. He also leaves a large number of other friends and relatives to mourn his early passing from their midst, but not without the hope of meeting him in a better and brighter world than this. As the departed son, brother and friend, some four years ago acknowleged Christ as his Saviour and had since lived an exemplary life, leaving a bright pathway behind for his loved ones and friends to follow him to that beautiful home beyond, where no accidents can ever part them more. He had taught school for three years in different counties of the state where he was loved and respected by old and young alike. He had been a student in Marshall College at Huntington for one year where he was aiming to graduate, preparing to take up studies for one of the professions, but had not yet decided which. The dear departed came to his death with his friend Rome McAlister while bathing in back water from Kanawha river in a ravine near South Charleston about seven o'clock on Monday evening, July 17, 1916. He was the joy and pride of father, mother, brothers, sisters and friends. He was a dutiful son, a loving brother, a kind, honorable and considerate friend, than which no nobler tribute may be given by a friend and cousin, ""Earth's loss is Heaven's gain."" J. L. DeWees.
