Information: Henry B. Davis, 80 year old farmer of Muses Bottom, was found dead in the garden near his home last Friday, after members of the family had gone in search of him when he failed to return to the house at the time expected. He was dead when found and a heart attack is believed to have been the cause of his death. He was born March 6, 1856, and was the first graduate of the Glenville State Normal School from Nicholas County. He was later an instructor at that school. He devoted 40 years of his life to school teaching and served as county superintendent of schools of Nicholas County. He moved to Muses Bottom in Jackson County in 1917 where he had purchased a farm and he devoted the remaining years of his life to farming and was active until the day of his death. The funeral services were held from the home at Muses Bottom Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. J. D. Bell in charge and the body was brought to the Ravenswood cemetery for burial. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rosa Bays Davis, and the following sons and daughters: Ira D. Davis, of Charleston; Mrs. A. E. Waver, of Grantsville; Mrs. D. O. Logan, of Norwalk, Conn.; Wendell C. Davis, of Chicago; and Arlington Davis, of Murraysville. [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
