Information: John J. Curry, 77, of Ripley, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley following a short illness.  He was born July 13, 1925 at Sandyville, the son of the late John Henry and Nellie Beymer Curry.  He was a former member of the Ripley Church of Christ, but most recently attended First Christian Church of Ravenswood.  He was a US Army Veteran, having served in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II.  He served in France, Belgium and Germany.  After the war, he served another year in the Army Air Force, stationed near Munich, Germany.  He was a life member of VFW Post #6669 of Ravenswood, and belonged to American Legion Post #21 of Spencer, earning his Fifty-Year Pin in the year 2000.  He was a longtime employee of Carl E. Smith, Inc.      He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Carmichael Curry; eight children, John F. and Bonnie Curry of Ripley, Sue and Roger Anderson of Kenna, Randy and Rosemary Curry of Sandyville and David Wayne and Marcy Curry of Sandyville;  Eleven grandchildren, John William, Jeff and Justin Curry of Ripley, Navy Lt. Brian Patrick and Tina Anderson of Corpus Christi TX,  Wendy Elizabeth Anderson of Kenna, Greg and Christina Curry of Ravenswood, Alex and Daniel Curry of Sandyville and Chris Wight of Sandyville; great-grandchildren, Jordan Michelle Wight and Kylie Morgan Anderson; sister, Betty Jane Knightstep of Dunbar; one sister-in-law, Freda Griffith Curry; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, five sisters, and one grandchild, Patrick Wayne Curry.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Vail Funeral Home in Ripley, with Pastor Earl Bailey and the Rev. Jeffrey Winter officiating.  Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery at Sandyville.  Friends may call today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Libraries.
