Information: William Lionel Currey, Jr., of Charleston, born February 14, 1919 to William Lionel Currey Sr. and Doris Beulah (Kalt) Currey of Jackson County, went home to Jesus on October 27, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Wynona ""Nonie"" Regina (Powell) Currey; a brother, Rex Currey; and two sisters, Ina Rose (Currey) Skidmore and Lois (Currey) McKinney. He is survived by his son, William Lionel Currey III; two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Currey and Hannah Rose Currey; and a great-grandson, Colton Tyler Craig, born September 11, 2013. He served as an Army sergeant during World War II under various campaigns from northern Africa to Germany, receiving the following medals: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze service star and one silver service star, WWII Victory Medal, Honorable Service lapel button WWII, and a certificate for serving during the Cold War. After the war he worked at FMC, South Charleston, for 34 years. He was a founding member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Sissonville, serving as treasurer for over 20 years. He was an active member of the Lions Club. He received a 25-year membership pin in the Studebaker Club. Mr. Currey was a self-taught musician, enjoying country music. He had great artistic ability, which he used in various civic duties throughout the years, and even created a cartoon series for a local paper for a period of time. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, November 2, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. James Kittle and the Rev. Lawrence Conger, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. Friends may call two hours prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
