Information: EVANS - Carol (Casdorph) Cunningham, 59. of Evans, WV, departed this life August 7, 2003, in CAMC. Memorial Division, following an extended illness. She was bornDecember 14, 1943, in Charleston, a daughter of the late William Albert and Anna Isabel (Baldwin) Casdorph. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Alita (Casdorph) Hazelrigg. She was a 1961 graduate of Charleston High School, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Omicron Pi sororities, the National Education Association, and the West Virginia Education Association. She graduated from Morris Harvey College with a degree in English, and received her Master's Degree from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. She was active in the West Virginia Writing Assessment Program, and in 1996 was selected as the English and Language Arts Teacher of the Year. She began her teaching career in Kingmont Elementary School in Marion County then moved to Jackson County Schools for three years. She then taught three years on a military base in Germany, before returning to Jackson County in 1976. After spending the last 12 years of her career at Ripley Middle School as an English teacher she retired from the Jackson County school system in 2002 with 33 years of service. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, where she served as a member of the choir and volunteered with office duties. Surviving are her husband, Charles Von Cunningham; daughter, Jennifer Chapman of Ripley; and nephew, Eric Mallory of Coral Springs, FL. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2003, in the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, with Rev. Charles Hicks and Pastor Richard Mahan officiating. Burial followed in the Otterbein Cemetery, Evans, WV.
