Information: Vera Dorcas Staats Crum of Ripley passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Eldercare of West Virginia following a short illness.She was preceded in death by her husband, Belmont Sayre Crum; her parents, Carter W. and Lillian Winter Staats; brother, Joel Franklin Staats; and sisters, Vivian (Mrs. Albert) Hite and Sara Lenora (Mrs. Avery) Hutchinson. Survivors include her two sons, both from Ripley, George Franklin Crum and wife, Saundra, with children, Zachary and Katie Crum, and Meagan and Sarah Slone, Samuel Belmont Crum and wife, Helen; half brother, Larry Eugene Staats and wife, Jan, of Columbus, Ohio; niece, Margaret Hutchinson Mellon of Sandyville; and many nieces and nephews. Vera was very active at Calvary United Methodist Church having served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was very active in a number of local groups including GFWC Woman's Club of Ripley; Jackson County Historical Society; the Eastern Star; VFW Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary; and the D.A.R. She retired from United Bank of Ripley with 42 years of service. Throughout her life, she touched many people in many ways and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Funeral service was at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley. Burial was in the Fairplain Cemetery.
