Information:   Vera Dorcas Staats Crum of Ripley passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Eldercare of West Virginia following a short illness.She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Belmont Sayre Crum; her parents, Carter W. and Lillian Winter Staats; brother, Joel Franklin Staats; and sisters, Vivian (Mrs. Albert) Hite and Sara Lenora (Mrs. Avery) Hutchinson. Survivors include her two sons, both from Ripley, George Franklin Crum and wife, Saundra, with children, Zachary and Katie Crum, and Meagan and Sarah Slone, Samuel Belmont Crum and wife, Helen; half brother, Larry Eugene Staats and wife, Jan, of Columbus, Ohio; niece, Margaret Hutchin­son Mellon of Sandyville; and many nieces and nephews. Vera was very active at Cal­vary United Methodist Church having served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was very active in a number of local groups including GFWC Woman's Club of Ripley; Jackson County Historical Soci­ety; the Eastern Star; VFW Aux­iliary; American Legion Auxil­iary; and the D.A.R. She retired from United Bank of Ripley with 42 years of service. Throughout her life, she touched many people in many ways and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Funeral service was at the Calvary United Meth­odist Church, Ripley. Burial was in the Fairplain Cemetery.
