Information: B. F. Armstrong--Benjamin Franklin Armstrong, oldest child of James and Catherine Weas Armstrong, was born Oct. 3, 1832, in Randolph County, Va., at a place now known as Parsons, Tucker Co., W. Va.  When he was but a baby he came with his parents to Ripley, and his mother used to relate as an incident of their long, hard journey to their new home that she carried him all the way on horseback on her lap.  As he grew up he went to school and helped his father in the tannery, at which business he continued, becoming in a few years a partner with his father and later manager of the plant.  After the close of the Civil War he embarked in the mercantile business.  He gradually built up a trade, doing a large and thriving business for about thirty years or unitl 1893 when he retired from active life. And it is in this capacity as a merchant that he was best known to the people of Jackson County.  On Nov. 1, 1855, he married Miss Sarah Moore of Cottageville, W. Va.  To this union were born one son and two daughters.  Mrs. Armstrong died April 12, 1895.  Mr. Armstrong died February 13, 1919.  Interment the Old Cemetery, Ripley.
