Information: The subject of this sketch, Mrs. M.A. Crites, was born in Jackson County, August 28, 1844, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.F. Pettigrew, in Summersville, W.Va., March 15, 1921, being at the time of her death 76 years, six months and 17 days old. Mrs. Crites' maiden name was Board. The writer knows the family of Boards in Jackson County and knows them to be among the best people of that county. Mrs. Crites was converted in her early life and lived a consistent Christian life until her going from us. She at the time of her death was a member of the Baptist Church. She was married to N.M. Crites, September 15, 1861. There were born to this union two daughters, Mrs. H.M. Alford, of Ripley, W.Va. and Mrs. J.F. Pettigrew of Summersville, W.VA. She leaves besides her two daughters, two grandchildren, H.A. Pettigrew, of Morgantown, and Mrs. Sylvia Perkins, of Charleston. Her funeral was conducted in the M.E. Church, South, by the writer assisted by Rev. Hill of the M.E. Church. Rev. Mr. Brown, her pastor, being unable to be present on account of the serious illness of a member of his family. Her body, after a short funeral service, was laid to rest beside that of her husband, who some 22 years ago preceded her to the Spirit world, there to wait the will of Him who is the Life and the Resurrection. ""Oh thou gentle spirit of the gone by years, Rest from thy toils, cares and tears! Sleep the quiet, peaceful sleep of the blest, And wish thy companion enjoy they blissful rest."
