Information: Mr. Michael W. Corder, age 65, passed away of pancreatic and liver cancer at his home in Bridgeport WV on Monday, February 13, 2012. He was born in Clarksburg WV in May 1946, the son of the late Lee and Marguerite Corder, also preceded in death by his sister, Annalee Corder Goodwin. Mike met his wife of 44 years, Rosemary Fisher of Ripley, while in college at Marshall University. The two were married in January 1968. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his two daughters, Lori Corder Clanton and her husband Kevin Clanton of Denver Colorado, and Dee Corder Johnson and her husband Rick Johnson of Bridgeport; three beloved grandchildren, Jared and Jordan Clanton and Marra Rose Johnson. Mike was a 1964 graduate of Bridgeport High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams and became the first Student Council President of BHS. Upon graduation, Mike furthered his education at Marshall University where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, earning himself a BA degree in business administration. Mike was then drafted to the US Navy in 1969. After serving his tour of duty he returned to Hope Gas/Consolidated Natural Gas, from which he retired in 2000 after 34 years of service. Mike has been very active in the community, a strong supporter of the Bridgeport High School Alumni and Friends Foundation and a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. His hobbies included woodworking, antique collecting, photography, and mostly traveling with family and friends, often to the family favorite of Aruba. Mike always did for others, never asked of anything for himself. The overwhelming sympathy and support that has been received is greatly appreciated by the family. Thank you to all who have helped and supported Mike through his journey and surrounded he and his family with love. In his honor, contributions may be made to the Bridgeport High School Alumni and Friends Foundation, P. O. Box 20, Bridgeport WV 26330, United Way of Harrison County, 301 West Main Street, Clarksburg WV 26301, or the Bridgeport United Methodist Church Permanent Fund, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport WV 26330. Family and friends will be received at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held in the church on Friday at 11 am with Reverend Steven E. Dorsey and Reverend James T. Lang presiding. The interment will follow ? Cemetery, Bridgeport WV. The United States Navy and Lewis County Honor Guard will provide full military rites at the grave side.
