Information: DR. JULIAN ARCHER DIES AT MAYO CLINIC - Word was received here Tuesday that Dr. Julian L. Archer, 64 year old native of Ripley and a former principal of Ripley high school, was dead at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he had been a patient for several days.  Further details were not available at press time.  Dr. Archer had been the Dean of Western Illinois University for a number of years.  He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Archer.  Survivors include his wife, Maude, and three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Hupp of Ravenswood, Mrs. Helen Thrasher of Mullins and Mrs. Hazel Hagedorn of Columbus.                                                                                                                      ARCHER RITES IN ILLINOIS - Funeral services for Dr. Julian Archer, native of Ripley, were held at McComb, Illinois, Thursday and burial was in a cemetery there.  Dr. Archer died at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on Monday of last week.  He was a son of the late Marshall C. and Minnie Reinwald Archer of Ripley.  He had been a member of the faulty of Western Illinois University since 1931 and the Dean of graduate studies for the past four years.  Prior to that he had served a a professor of education and director of the university extension studies.  He was a graduate of Ripley High School, Ripley, W. Va.  His degrees were:  A.B. from Ohio University, 1921, A. M. Columbia University, 1924 and PHD New York University, 1931.  His teaching career was as follows:  teacher in Jackson county, W. Va. 1916-17;  principal of the high school in Ripley, W. Va. 1921-23;  vocational counselor, Congress High  School, Bridgeport, Conn. 1924-27; educational director, Connecticut State YMCA camp, summer, 1926; assistant in vocational guidance, Teacher's College, Columbia University, summer 1927;  associate professor of education, Alabama Polytechnic Instiute, 1927-28;  instructor in educational sociology, School of Education, New York University, 1928-31.  In addition to his wife, Maude Crissman Archer, whom he married on June 21, 1930, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Helen Thrasher of Mullens, Mrs. Floyd Hagedorn of Grove City, Ohio and Mrs. Clyde Hupp of Ravenswood.
