  <p>Information: Melvin J. Cope, 83, of Ravenswood, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1988, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, after a sudden illness.  He was a member of United Baptist Church, Matewan.  He was a retired coal miner.  Surviving:  wife, Laura Boyd Cope; sons, Garland of Ravenswood, Luther of Winfield, E. Miller ""Bill""  of Logan; daughters, Lucille Craig of St. Louis, Mo., Ruth Robinette of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.  Service will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Straight-Tucker Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Allen Stewart, the Rev. Stanley Skeens and the Rev. Anton Hager officiating.  Burial will be in Ravenswood Cemetery.</p>
