Information: Joseph D. Cooper, 76, of Sherman, a retired school teacher and postmaster and a former County Superintendent of Schools of Jackson County, died at his home Sunday. He had been in failing health for some time. He was born July 12/22, 1873 in Jackson County, a son of the late Reuban and Mary Safreed Cooper, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 1949. He was united in marriage to Mona Tumlin on July 31, 1898. He taught school for 48 years, retiring in 1942. He also served as postmaster at Sherman for several years and was County School Superintendent 1902-1904. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Tumlin Cooper; a son, Isaac Cooper of Portland, Oregon; three daughters, Mrs. Grace D. Derenberger of Ravenswood, Mrs. Ruth Chambers of Mainestee, Michigan, and Miss Allene Cooper at home; three grandchildren, Eddie and James Cooper and Carolyn Derenberger; and one half-sister, Mrs. Ruby Simpson of Wellsville, Ohio. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Ravenwood and burial was in the Ravenswood Cemetery. (Betty Kessel McIntye obit collection)
