Obituary Date: 1917-05-11
Information: Noah M. Comer was born October 2, 1843, died May 5, 1917, age 74 years, 2 months and 3 days. The deceased had been in poor health for some weeks but was seemingly improving rapidly. While talking to his little grand-children Saturday morning he was attacked by paralysis and died in a few minutes. He was united in marriage, about 1862, to Miss Pheobe Cunningham, and to this union six children were born, all of who survive. In 1861 ""Uncle Noah"" (for everyone called him by this title) responded to President Lincoln's first call for volunteers. He became a member of the famous 9th Virginia regiment and took part in some of the fiercest contests of the Civil War, including Shilo, First and Second Ball Run and Antetam Creek. The greater part of his education was obtained on the battlefield, for free schools were almost unknown in his boyhood days, yet his greatest delight was to see the cause of education advancing. He helped to build many of our pioneer school houses. The decessed was converted several years ago and became a faithful member of the Adventist church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Garrison of the Methodist church. Interment Sunday at the Casto Cemetery. NOTE: Phoeba C. (Age 82 years) is also buried in this cemetery. Cemetery located on the Stonelick Road on a hill above the Plainview Church.
