Information: Gerald Minter Cogar, 83, of Ravenswood WV, departed this life Monday, February 21, 2012. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed by family and friends. Gerald was born in Pueblo, Colorado, and was the son of the late Minter and Gaye Cogar. He is survived by daughter, Angela Journell of Ravenswood; special friend, Mary Reno; sisters, Marie Walker of Ravenswood, Helen Morris of Gauley Bridge, and Joan Vance of Sanford NC; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; sister, Tiny Massey; and brothers, Harold and Darrell. Gerald was retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 30 years of service. He was a member of North United Methodist Church in Ravenswood and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of R. Douglas Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star; Ashton Lodge #12, Knights Templar; Nemesis Shrine; and Rainbow Grand Cross of Color. Many residents of Jackson County enjoyed the music of the Every Thursday Group, of which Gerald was a member. He enjoyed many musical talents throughout his life, including singing, playing the guitar, fiddle and mandolin. The family would like to thank Ravenswood Village for all of their professional care giving. A celebration of Gerald's life will be held at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood WV, Friday, February 24, 2012, from 5 to 8 pm with an Eastern Star service at 7:30 pm and service at 11 am, Saturday, February 25, 2012, with Reverend Don Maxson officiating. Burial will follow at Ravenswood Cemetery with full graveside Masonic Rites provided by Ashton Lodge #12 in Ravenswood. Condolences may be expressed to the family at roush94@yahoo.com.
