Obituary Date: 1956-07-27

Information: DEATH CLAIMS OLEY ANKRUM - Oley Ankrum, 66-year old resident of Cottageville, was found dead in his bed Saturday morning when his wife went to his room to awaken him.  A heart ailment from which he had been suffering for the past two years, is believed to have caused his death.  He and Mrs. Ankrum were in Ripley Friday looking after business matters and his condition was not known to have been any worse than it had been for the past two years.  He was born at Cottageville on April 22, 1890, a son of Richard Clark Ankrum and Barbara Click Ankrum.  On June 22, 1912 he married Lena May Davis and they had since lived on a farm in Union district.  He was a Mason and an Odd Fellow and a member of the Cottageville E. U. B. church.  Survivors include his wife, Lena May; two sons, Dr. Robert C. Ankrum of Huntington and Harold Ankrum of Lancaster, California, and a daughter, Mrs. Gerald Balser of Granville, Ohio; a brother, John Ankrum of Cottageville and two sisters, Lida May Ankrum of Charleston and Mrs. Hattie Jones of Danville, Ill.      The funeral service was held from the E. U. B. church in Cottageville on Tuesday with Rev. Charles Teets officiating and burial with the Vail undertakers in charge was in the Blaine Memorial cemetery there.  The funeral service was delayed until Tuesday in order for the son, Harold, in California to return for the service.  He and his family had just visited his parents, and had not arrived back at his California home before the father's death, and did not learn that he had died until he got there Saturday night and the death message was awaiting him.  He immediately made plans to return by plane for the funeral.
