Information: James Samuel Chase, died at Clay Friday night after a long illness. He was 93 years old. A retired engineer who formerly lived at Ripley where he was the engineer on the Main Street paving which is still in use today. Mr. Chase resided with a daughter, Mrs. Helen C. Reed of Clay. He died there. His only other survivor, a daughter, Mrs. Maxine C. Mullins, lives in Baltimore, Md. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and past master of Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 16. Also he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Clay, the West Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Services were held Monday in Clay Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was the Rev. H. F. Blake and the Rev. Bardy Shaffer. Interment followed in Reed Cemetery, Clay, with Masonic graveside rites.
