Information: Obit date unavailable Miss Lena Mabel Charter, 82, of Ravenswood, a former state supervisor of home economics education for the West Virginia State Board of Education, died Monday at the St. Joseph's Hospital following a three week's illness. Born Sept. 18, 1875, in Doddridge County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Helen Williams Charter. Following her graduation from the Rosier College for Women, she taught in West Virginia public schools for 18 years and in the Glenville State Normal School for eight years. She was the state supervisor of home economics education for the West Virginia State Board of Education for 19 years. On Feb. 4, 1941, she retired from her teaching career and took up residence in Ravenswood. She was a member of the Walton Memorial Methodist church of Ravenswood, the Ravenswood Senior Women's Club and the D.A.R. and was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. During her life she traveled extensively, culminating her travels with a journey around the world two years ago. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. James R. Chapman of Smithburg, W.Va. and a brother, John R. Charter of Woodbury, Tenn. Funeral services are under the arrangements of the Chambers Funeral Home at Ravenswood where friends may call until one hour prior to the time of the services when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state.
