Obituary Date:

Information: Mason Casto, an old time comrade in the late Civil War and for several years last past a nearby neighbor, and for the last twenty years an invalid, passed from the craggy road of time at 1 a.m. September 23, 1917, and was laid to rest in the Antioch burying ground at 3 p.m. the following day.  Comrade Casto had no hospital record on which to prove a pensionable status--he was in the ranks of the 9th W. Va. Infantry, (not in hospital), and with his brother Zan, and Comrade W. W. Riley, shared the woeful hardships and privations of the famous ""Lynchburg raid"".  Neither has he any church record to commend him to the favor of ""Peter at the pearly gate"", but he told me this, as I advised with him of late: ""I well know that no doctor can cure me but I am trusting in Jesus and I know He will save me--blessed consolation--a sure passport from a Lazarus on earth to a saint in Heaven--glorious transition!  He would have been 75 years old the 17th of October next.  S.
